An Associate of Arts in Biblical Studies (A.A. in Biblical Studies) degree is a very common and practical stair-step degree on the way to a ministry or Biblical Studies bachelor’s degree. If a prospective preacher is interested in becoming a licensed or ordained pastor in many denominations, earning an accredited Associate of Arts in Biblical Studies from a Bible college may meet educational requirements in some denominations.
The core classes are those which are required of most majors, regardless of which one you choose. But, if you complete 3 to 5 extra classes beyond the core, then you can finish an associate degree.
One advantage of obtaining the associate degree as a stair-step to getting your 4-year bachelor’s degree is that it “locks-in” all the core classes so that no matter what major you choose for a bachelor’s degree, all the required core will have been already done. No additional course requirements beyond the classes in your major may be asked of you.
Alternatively, graduates can pursue ministry in an official capacity immediately after (or while) earning this degree. There are many Bible colleges with A.A. in Biblical Studies degrees that focus on these students.
